How to Experience the Lord's Nearness

drawing near to God blog post

I know many times in church or in prophetic circles, we talk about the Lord’s presence. We speak of feeling the Lord’s presence or asking Him to come in with His presence. While tangibly feeling Him in a room or near you is absolutely a thing. He is always near.

I’ve asked the Lord before how come we don’t always feel Him. Like there are times when He seems so close to us and then other times where we have to question if He’s still there. He explained to me that it’s all in our focus. My previous mentor used to speak of focus a lot. She used to say , “what you focus on, you love”, which is something the Lord told her. When we are not focused on the Lord, He doesn’t feel as near to us, although His position never changes. Life does that sometimes. There’s kids, jobs, families, bills/finances, worries and cares-all things that on their own can consume our focus, let alone when combined with each other. It can be hard to stay focused on God when actively working in your career or when you are busy with school.

What the Lord has so kindly shown me recently is to seek Him in all things. Jeremiah 29:13 states:

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

I understood this Scripture in part. It seems very simple; when you search for Him, you will find Him. Easy enough. But I never fully knew what counted as "seeking". In the Scripture before, He mentions prayer but since the Word of God is alive, it always means something much more or deeper in every season.

When you focus on the Lord with your heart willingly looking for His presence to be with you, you will find Him.

Day in and day out, feeling His nearness to you comes with how much you consider Him and look for Him to be with you. I recently had a time in a drive thru where I started to grumble because the order was taking so long. I didn’t realize it was because they were making fresh fries and I had to wait longer to receive them. While taken at face value, this can seem so trivial, but since I set my heart to search for Him, I knew that the Lord was there with me in that very drive thru, to show me patience. Just the day before I had been struggling with patience and doubting a word that the Lord had given me. He used this very example of french fries to show me that just because something is taking long doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it. It also shows that I don’t know what is being worked out or prepared for me behind the scenes. This is seeking Him. Looking for Him in every good and bad or even small situation to see if He is there or if He has been there.

Or for another example, I was really sad one day and later that evening the Lord sent a family I know to randomly share some funny stories with me which made me laugh so much. My tears had turned into joy. The sadness I had was not known at all to them. They're not even Christians, but the Lord being near to me, used them as a way to show His comforts.

This is how you will begin to feel or keep His presence near to you. Of course there are times where His presence is upon us much stronger, but He doesn’t always come in the same way all the time. Fix your heart to seek/search for Him and you will find Him with you in every thing, daily.

God bless.

I absolutely love this ! I love how you shared what God was teaching you through patience and being able to see the good in waiting after the fact even through fries and that’s why I love it so much because he will use ANYTHING 😂🙌🏾🙏🏾😩 and through that a reminder that he is near and intentional in all that he does and like you said just because something is taking long doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it thank you so much for your obedience and saying yes to this it will bless many just as it blessed me🩷
