The Inheritance that Awaits Us
“Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” -Colossians 3:24

Did you know that as Christians we have an inheritance waiting for us in Heaven? It is part of the hope that the Bible talks about us having, in knowing that there is so much more waiting for us ahead. When you see the word treasure in the Bible, it is attached to our inheritance. Our inheritance is our treasure in Heaven. God has been so strategic with everything since before the beginning of time. Here are a few things you should know about the inheritance that awaits us:

It is incorruptible

“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19-20

The best thing about taking part in our inheritance in Heaven, is that it can’t be stolen from us. It also won’t grow old or become valueless throughout time. It will remain the same, as great and as beautiful as it will be when we first lay eyes on it. If you’ve ever gotten a new car, you can remember how beautiful and nice it was when you first got it. I’m sure you did everything you could to keep it spotless and clean. But throughout time, with driving/parking, your new car starts to get dings and scratches on it and no longer looks as nice as it did in the beginning. Or if you are like me and had your window broken into before and items stolen from your car, then you know, a piece of you breaks at the disappointment of being robbed.

These aren’t things that will be an issue in the time to come. You will never be robbed in Heaven. Your inheritance has no dings or scratches on it. It is not going to get old and become useless sitting up there waiting on you. It is the perfect place for your items to be stored.

It can be added to

“But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” - Jeremiah 17:10”
“ Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.” -Colossians 3:23-25

As these two verses show, part of what we will receive in the time of our inheritance, are rewards given based on our deeds. I remember asking the Lord a question about His eye because there are many Scriptures talking about the Lord’s eye watching over us. He told me that He searches the earth to see what good is being done and that He rewards the good. As I meditate on this here and there it is so rewarding to know that our work will never be in vain. Sometimes we can get tired of doing good and wonder if it’s really worth it, but our comfort can be in knowing that we have a Father who is a part of everything we do and He takes note of it making sure that we are rewarded.

It was given through the gift of Jesus

I’m not sure if you have ever done this, but at one point the crucifixion of Jesus became very common to me. His death and burial was something that I knew and believed in, but not something that I felt deeply. The truth is, this was no small gift. A life was paid/given for me. A life was paid/given for you. This was all at the hands of the Father who since before the beginning of time set a plan that we would be restored back to Him through a complete and blameless sacrifice. It is because of Him that we even have the opportunity to take part in an inheritance as sons and daughters. And as a gift/promise of the inheritance to come, we have/have the opportunity to receive the Holy Spirit, the spirit of Jesus.

God has wonderfully worked everything out all so that you could remain with Him forever. I encourage you to take some time to meditate on this and even search the Scriptures to know more about the inheritance promised to us.

God bless!
