“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative- that is, the Holy Spirit- He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.” - John 14:26
Oh the precious Holy Spirit! We call Him precious because He is gentle, beloved and dear. We might also call Him costly, since He is worth much value and those who have Him are rich, not lacking in anything. He is the Lord’s Spirit whom we have been given and entrusted with in our hearts. We are called to love Him, walk in union with Him, and not to grieve Him for He is just that gentle.
Throughout Scripture we can see the power of His presence moving in the Earth and through people. In Genesis, we are introduced to Him through creation. He hovered over the waters of the formless earth and then the Lord began to speak His creations.
“The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” - Genesis 1:2-3
His presence brings creativity. His presence is a creative power.
I have had many times where I was working on a project or even writing one of these blog posts and felt a power inside of me that allowed my work to flow freely. I would know the right things to say and I would know the right direction to go in with a project. That is the Holy Spirit. His presence brings creativity as you operate in His gifts.
That leads me into my next point. He is our precious Helper!
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” -Romans 8:26
Jesus states that the Father sent us the Holy Spirit in replacement of himself, as our helper and advocate. His Spirit would dwell within us and fulfill in us everything that our flesh lacks on its own. We can overcome sin with the Holy Spirit. We receive wisdom and understanding with the Holy Spirit. We are reminded of God’s word by His Holy Spirit. We are healed, comforted, loved, and made whole by His Spirit. He helps us to overcome the darkness today and the darkness to come. He is with us and always for us.
The Lord’s Spirit is so incredibly gentle and it even testifies of the Father’s heart and how lowly and merciful His ways are towards us. In 1 John 3, John says that those who obey God’s commandments are the ones who remain in fellowship with Him and He with them. How perfect of a heart to want to put His precious Spirit into broken vessels full of sin, entrusting us not to grieve Him or hurt him; only to accept all of the goodness that He just wants to bring into our lives.
I say all of this to say that you need the Holy Spirit. We need the Holy Spirit. It is impossible to overcome sin and to walk in perfect unity with the Lord without Him.
He is precious and He is truly lovely. There is no one like Him.
“And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” -Romans 5:5
