Finding Happiness in the Middle of Being Single

There is so much happiness that can come out of being single, if you allow it. I remember when I first became single about 6 years ago, I felt so lost and disappointed. I didn’t know what the road ahead would look like for me and it was sad to let go of a relationship with a person that I was so familiar with. But, spoiler alert, it did get better.

In order to be happy with being single, you have to play an active role in your happiness. What I mean by that is if you are looking for another person to make you happy, you will be let down every single time. If you are looking for your situation to change in order for you to be happier then you will be let down too. True happiness is within you and it’s God given.

Your outlook on being single can either help you to be hopeful and happy or it can leave you depressed. The Bible says in Philippians 4:8-9 to fix your thoughts on good things.

"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me- everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. " - Philippians 4:8-9

This Scripture alone will carry you through your singlehood, trust me!

You can either sit with thoughts that it’s never going to get better unless you have someone or you can be happy with where you are today knowing that God is working out something much better for you.

I cried so many nights in my earlier years of being single. I had every thought from, maybe I could’ve done this better, or if only things would’ve been different we could have still been together. But NO! It wasn’t meant to be and I am a firm believer in what God has for you, it will be for you.

I believe that the Scripture Isaiah 43:18-19 is also so appropriate for discovering happiness in the middle of being single because oftentimes we are so focused on the past or so focused on the relationship that we desire that we can miss the new thing that God is doing. We can easily miss the way that He is making for us right now because of our focus on dating.

With all love, forget it! Let the Lord do something new for you today. Let Him draw you in closer and heal you from your pain. Let Him tell you how much He loves you and how special you are to Him. Let Him grow your gifts and shape you into the person He created for you to be. Let Him rebuild you from all of the different brokenness you have experienced. Let Him be your Prince Charming and show you what love should look like.

He wants to do so much for you and the journey with Him will be fun! It’s exciting to see and receive different revelations from God. He is not less than any relationship that you could walk into today. Trust me! I’ve seen it for myself in these past 6 years.

There is happiness in being single along with a promise that the former things you have experienced are nothing to be compared to the new life that God has in front of you. Be patient and enjoy the journey knowing that you are not alone.

Stay hopeful.

Stay with God.

And stay believing that things are already getting better for you.
