How You Can Have Peace In The Midst of Chaos

Many of us are struggling with finding peace in the midst of everything going on around us. Here is how you can recapture God's peace through any hard times in your life.

Oftentimes when we consider what chaos means, we think of some sort of over the top scenario that we believe would be hard for us to bear or control. While yet this may be true, we fail to realize that many of us are already in the midst of sinking within the chaos that is going on inside of us.

Not only do we have our own beliefs about our faith or politics, but we also have the everyday “normal” pressures of responsibilities, routines, careers, and family. These can keep us internally spinning on a hamster wheel unsure of how to get off. Although it may take some time to master, let me show you how to have peace in the midst of your own chaos.

Write down all of your “chaos”

Grab yourself a pen and paper and find a quiet space where you can be uninterrupted by others. Begin to write down all of the things that are causing you to have “chaos” within yourself, (i.e. specific financial needs, family, unhappiness in life, anxiety about work). Try to be as specific and detailed as possible when writing this down.

Sometimes we don’t realize how much we have on our plate until we can physically see all of those things listed out. In order to give these things to the Lord, you must first know what it is that you are giving.

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” - Psalms 55:22

Relax and breathe

After doing step one, you may feel a bit overwhelmed by actually being able to see everything that you have been facing or choosing not to face. Take a deep breath and relax. This will help you to easily be filled with God’s peace and not be overcome by anxiety or worry.

Remember the Lord

While you are working on taking those deep breaths and relaxing, this is a great time for you to remember the Lord. What I mean by that is to look back over your life and find God in all of the areas that you have experienced victory. If you’re having trouble, just start with something simple that we often take for granted: He woke you up this morning with the capability to think, speak, or move the limbs of your body. The fact that you woke up today is nothing shy of a blessing because unfortunately many people didn’t. Remembering what the Lord has done for you in the past, will help you to trust Him now and with your future.

Submit your chaos to Him

Submission, one of the most humbling ways that we can choose to honor God.

When we are submitting ourselves to the Lord, we are asking Him to take over and rule over us, because He can handle more than we can. His plans are always for us and not against us.

Your submission can look something like this: “Heavenly Father, I submit (the problem: i.e. my anxiety about not getting out of debt) to You. I have been worried about it because (the reason why), but nonetheless Father not my will but Your will be done. I ask that You help me to overcome this spirit of anxiety and focus on You and Your love for me.”

This doesn't need to be robotic. Speak to the Lord as if you were humbly opening up to a friend about your troubles. After you have completed these submission prayers, try your hardest not to focus on those things again. Make your best effort to leave them with the Lord, because they are now in His hands.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” -James 4:7

Ask for His peace

It is very hard for us, as people in this fallen world, to remain in a constant state of peace, so in the times of our deficit, we are to go and ask for replenishment from the Lord.

Say, “Heavenly Father, please fill me with Your peace.” Repeat this over and over again until you feel it come. After you have spoken this, take some time sitting in silence and let the Lord minister to your needs.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” - 1 Peter 5:7

I pray that this message and these steps will bless you throughout your journey. Rest assured that there are many believers facing some of the same obstacles that you are going through. Keep your faith and stay rested in Him.

God bless!
