The Harsh Truth About Enduring Through Trials

I want to share with you the truth of what it’s actually like to endure a trial. I had no idea what this was like when I first came to Christ. The only thing that I had learned was that the Lord would be with there during it all which of course is true. However, you never fully understand something until you, yourself, have to walk in those shoes. Here are some of the harsh truths that I’ve had to learn while enduring trials.

You don’t always know when you’re in a trial

One of the misconceptions that I had while starting my walk with God was that I would be aware of everything coming my way. This is not true. Sometimes you are just going about your life as usual and then all of a sudden, things start to happen that test your faith and trust in God.

There have been plenty of times where I’ve had to go before the Lord and ask Him what is happening and why is it happening. It is then that He reveals to me that I am facing a trial or sometimes He won't eventell me, but instead He'll give me encouragement to make it through. If you are like me and like to be aware of all things at all times, then you might find this a struggle as well.

Trials are hard

If I’m being completely honest with you and not sugar coating anything, trials are hard! They are not always the easiest to get through. I mean after all, that is their purpose- to produce something within us to make us stronger. How can something be produced without a little friction?

But when I say they are hard, I mean many times I have wanted to quit while going through them. Many times I have quit! God lovingly helped me get back up again and continue on, but believe me, I have ran from plenty of trials. I fully understand David in Psalm 27 when he said: “I had fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” I never thought I would faint. I always said that I would be strong enough to endure anything, but some trials really put those words to the test in me.

Trials can be lengthy

When I originally thought of a trial, I guess my mind made the assumption that it would be something that only lasted a little bit of a time. Oh no, was I wrong! Trials feel like they go on forever! I have a particular trial that I am going through that has been going on for years! I thought it would be over by now.

The length of your trial depends on what the Lord is trying to produce in you. If His goal is to produce endurance, then you better believe that you will be walking through that trial for quite some time.

While these are some harsh truths about enduring trials, the lighter side is that we are never in a trial alone. It’s like going into a classroom to take a test that you don’t have the answers for, but the Teacher decides to sit next to you and encourage you through the whole test. We have a Man in the fire with us! The Lord is there to help get us through and to encourage/comfort us when we feel like we can’t go on any longer.

I also want to share with you one key that I have learned while going through a trial: ask the Lord what it’s meant to produce in you! This way while you’re going through it, you can have a focus for it. Having a focus point will help you to combat the enemy’s attacks of quitting early and hopelessness.

I'm praying for your endurance and strength through everything you are facing right now. Trust God at His word and know that He will be faithful enough to complete it.
