Accomplishing goals with Jesus blog post

I know that strangely enough this can be a topic of hesitation for some Christians. Sometimes, religiously, we can feel as if goals do not matter, because we think that the Lord will plan every single thing out for us along the way. While the Lord does have plans for us, He does not control our movements and gives us plenty of space to dream and think big for ourselves.

The great Creator, himself, loves to see us create and He loves to see us accomplish/attain our heart's desires. That is apart of His walk and nearness to us on earth. He wants to be with us through every heartbreak, downfall, valley, and accomplishments.

In order to accomplish your goals with Jesus, you must first have them. Here are some questions to begin to ask yourself in order to establish some goals:

  • What is it that you want to achieve for yourself long term and short term?

  • Who do you want to become?

  • What is important for you right now?

  • What makes you happy?

  • What would your ideal day look like if you could create it yourself?

  • Who do you want to help on this earth? Who/what do you feel compassion for?

All of these questions are good starting places for you to sit down and to begin strategizing on your goals.

1. Prioritize your goals

I don’t know about you but there are so many things that I want to accomplish in life. So many things that I often feel as if there is not enough time to dedicate to them. As a full time worker, it can be hard to even find the energy that it takes for my goals to be achieved. Whether you are experiencing the same dilemmas as me or you have your hands full with taking care of children, be sure to make your goals a priority so that you don’t forget them within the busyness of life. Your goals will never be achieved if you don’t make time for them!

On top of making them a priority in your life, make sure that you prioritize each goal as well. There are some goals that you may consider long term and they don't need as much attention as something you may want to achieve within the next few months to a year. Be sure to differentiate between your goals so that they can each receive the adequate amount of attention from you.

2. Take action

I, for years, have been someone who writes down their goals and just walks away from the paper that I wrote them down on expecting them to come to pass. Nothing changes or moves without action. The Bible says that faith without works is dead! This alone lets you know that you must put some action behind the works that you do here on earth.

Yes, part of our actions is to pray and believe that God will help us and bless us. However, He will not do all of the work for us. You will still need to take action towards achieving your goals and pray about the specific actions that you need to take along the way. I remember when I wanted to lose about 15-20 pounds and yet the thought of eating healthy did not excite me. Sadly, those pounds did not come off with just prayer, but with some light exercise and intermittent fasting, I was able to lose the weight I wanted which made me exceedingly happy.

"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also" - James 2:26 NKJV

Nothing in our lives will ever be accomplished or changed, until we rise up and begin to take action.

3. Leave room for faith

If your goal is easily achievable, then why is it even a goal. If it's easy then it might be better suited being added to your to-do list rather than your goals.

Leave room for faith within your goals! Make space for God to play a role in your achievements and success. Your goals should be a bit bigger than something that you can do on your own. I know it might sound intimidating, but that is apart of the journey that you get to share specifically with Jesus. This will build your personal relationship with Him along the way.

Now go forward and accomplish great things!
